6th ANNUAL AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN IN CINEMA FILM FESTIVAL  HONORS AND INVITES HOLLYWOOD ACTRESS

ADILAH BARNES TO SIT ON PANEL

Adilah Barnes at Closing Ceremony -- March 8th

 

 (Los Angeles, Calif.) - The African American Women in Cinema ("AAWIC") has invited Hollywood-based motion picture, television and stage actress, Adilah Barnes to sit on their March 7th, 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. panel "African American Women Actresses: Making History In Hollywood" as part of their 6th annual Film Festival. The AAWIC Film Festival takes place March 7th and 8th at the Tribeca Film Center located at, 375 Greenwich Boulevard, New York City, 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

Terra Renee, Founder of the AAWIC will also honor Barnes, at the March 8th closing ceremony "Celebrating African American Women who have made strides in the Entertainment Industry." 

The 6th Annual AAWIC Film Festival promises to be an exciting and informative experience in cinema. The program includes panels on industry related topics as well as screenings of provocative and compelling works by emerging and established women of color who are of African, Latina and Asian descent. Film screenings are 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each day.

Filmmakers include: "Kandaharlem" Cathleen Campbell; "Rendez-Vous" Mariette Monpierre; "Her Father's Daughter" Paula Brancato; "Running on Eggshells" Faith Pennick; and "Cuban Roots Bronx Stories" Pam Sporn. 

Other panelists include Krista Dandridge, niece of the Legendary Actress Dorothy Dandridge; Tasha Smith, Actress (The Corner, The Tom Show, Boston Common) Cee Cee Michaela, Actress, (GirlFriends). Barnes is a veteran television, stage and motion picture actress (Erin Brockovich, Murder By Numbers, Little John, Roseanne). She currently plays the recurring role of "Judge Randall" in For the People, (Lifetime Television) and portrays historical figure, "Ida B. Wells" in HBO's upcoming television movie Iron Jawed Women starring Angelica Houston and Hilary Swank (airing May, 2003). 

Barnes is also the co-founder of the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival (10th Anniversary Festival runs March 3rd through March 31st at the Los Angeles Theatre Center). She teaches acting and has coached some of Hollywood's most successful stars including Toni Braxton (Play'd and Kingdom Come), Jada Pinkett-Smith (Set It Off), Benjamin Bratt (Law & Order), Don "DC" Curry, Kym Whitley and many others. She is also writing her first book, On My Own Terms: One Actor's Journey that is slated for a 2003 release.
